All I can say is that Tin Man is one of the most moving stories I've read recently (and I've read it twice since buying the book this summer). Tin Man portrays love in all its forms, friendship and loss between three people: a young woman, Annie, and two men Ellis and Michael/5(). Tin Man by Sarah Winman is such a unique and marvelous tale. Told in two distinct parts, Tin Man is a love story but so much more. It is the memoir of two men, Ellis and Michael, who, during their youth, were shy, young lovers.4/5. The author was inspired to write The Can Man after seeing a man regularly collecting cans, which he stored in an old shopping cart. The Can Man is especially timely today. Due to the economic downturn and foreclosure crisis that began in , homelessness has been on the rise. The story of World War II in the Pacific as seen through the eyes of teen-age sailors aboard the U.S.S. Saufley, one of the most highly decorated destroyers of the war. "EJ" takes the reader on a first-person tour of the "Old Navy"-from boot camp in Norfolk to his first tour of duty aboard the U.S.S. Washington, through the early months of war in the Atlantic to a disagreement over liberty.

An excellent book. Unlike most accounts of U.S. Naval operations in WWII, E.J. Jernigan’s Tin Can Man is one of the very few told from the viewpoint of an enlisted man. Also, his perspective on the Pacific campaign is not from a cruiser or flattop, but from a hard-charging Fletcher Class destroyer.   Tin Man by Sarah Winman Tinder Press, £ The novel opens with a young pregnant woman, Dora Judd, winning a copy of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in a raffle in /5.
